"Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Brundtland Report, 1987

The importance of sustainable development is continuously increasing, as our world is becoming more global, and economic, social and environmental problems are beginning to cross geographic and political borders.

Sustainable development offers a vision of human progress that requires integration of immediate and longer-term needs, local and global needs, and considers economic, social and environmental dimensions as inter-dependent components of development.

Bearing in mind that this vision may only be realised by mutual cooperation of all stakeholders, the 3rd  International Symposium on Sustainable Development (ISSD2012) aims to bring together a diverse community of researchers and practitioners to highlight current management and technology issues and challenges, and exchange the latest research achievements and their implications for practice.

The Symposium intends to serve as a forum for international and regional community to meet, generate and share ideas in the field of theoretical, experimental and applied research that addresses a wide spectrum of questions that relate to sustainability.
